What next, God? That can be an anxiety inducing question. Rather it be the end of a chapter in life or just feeling that life has become stale, transitioning into something new requires reflection. For me it was when I decided to stay home with my kids. These days I am mostly afraid to let myself or my family down. I don’t set goals in business for other people anymore; I set them for myself. My own achievement. Personally my own achievements do not matter much if I’m not following where God is going.

I’ve been on a rollercoaster of what following God’s will looks like my whole life. Different pastors and youth leaders would come along with stories, analogies, and opinions. But here’s what wasn’t talked about enough, staying connected through a relationship with God. It was once described as being plugged into an outlet and that’s stayed with me. That’s the simplest answer I can give.

Walking with Jesus is a relationship. Better understanding who He is will help us understand where He wants us to walk. And like we want to understand people we are close to by spending time with them, we can spend time through Bible study. It is ongoing. We never fully have the answers. So back to that question, “What’s next, God?”. This is me holding myself accountable, and hopefully encouraging you to open your Bible this summer and work on our relationships with Jesus together so we can continue to answer that question.

For better Bible study here’s some questions to ask ourselves (these are not my own):

  1. What’s the best thing you’ve read in the Bible this week?

  2. Have you read anything you didn’t understand?

  3. Is there something you read that you want to know more about?

  4. What’s God telling you through what you’ve been reading?

  5. What’s one thing you can change in your life as a result of what you’ve read?

P.S. There are many ways to spend time with Jesus. This article just highlights Bible study.

Check out Psalm 119:9 to get started. I will be posting a Bible study recommendations down the road. Happy reading!
